Bret Michaels has laid out the reasons why he should be the next judge on American Idol.
But there’s one person he doesn’t need to convince, and she’s someone who knows a lot about the gig: Paula Abdul.
“If he were to take that position I think he would be awesome at it because you’ve got to have a passion and love for music,” Abdul told Us Weekly. “It takes somebody who really, really understands young people to try to make the magic happen in those 30 seconds. [Bret] would fit the mold perfectly.”

That said, Paula says no one will ever be able to truly replace Simon Cowell.
“Honestly, the word replacement to me does not apply because, as we all know, they broke the mold after Simon. I don’t think he could ever be replaced,” she said. “There should be no comparison.”
It’s true, but it’s still an important question: Should Bret Michaels be the next American Idol judge?

Just five weeks after suffering a brain hemorrhage, Bret Michaels returned to the stage last night in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Incredibly, this event itself was NOT the most surprising development of the evening! But, first, a quick recap of the concert:
Limping slighty, Bret told the 1,400-person crowd at the Hard Rock Casino: “I’ve got a little bitty hitch in my left giddy up, but I think we’ll be all right. It’s an awesome feeling. I’m glad to be here.”
He then played a set that included former Poison hits such as “Talk Dirty to Me, “Unskinny Bop” and “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” the same single he sang with Casey James on the American Idol finale.

For Bret Michaels: First, Celebrity Apprentice. Next, American Idol?!?
Prior to one song, he shocked the crowd and announced: “I can’t say this is true yet, cause I don’t know. Next year they asked me to possibly be the judge on American Idol.”
A source close to Michael confirmed Bret is “in the running to replace Simon,” while an audience member said “I figured he’d be wobbly and sitting on a stool. But he was energetic, running around the stage with his guitar.”
So if the singer really is on his way to recovery, that begs the question: Would he be a good replacement for Simon Cowell?

It was a slow, but steady rise to the top for Lee DeWyze.
But it all paid off tonight, as the laid back rocker with the sexy, scratchy voice was crowned season nine champion on American Idol!
DeWyze peaked at the ideal time, bringing the crowd and judges to their feet with his recent rendition of “Hallelujah” last week. He then carried that momentum into the finale and defeated a worthy competitor, Crystal Bowersox.

Send in your congratulations to Lee right now and sound off: Did he deserve to win?
A choked-up DeWyze accepted Ryan Seacrest’s congratulations after the announcement and proceeded to sing his cover of “Beautiful Day,” which will soon hit radio stations around the country.
Relive Lee’s Idol journey below…

Last week, the American Idol judges saved Michael Lynche from elimination.
But a new report suggets this wasn’t the first time a contestant came close to leaving the show, only for an Idol mainstay to step in at the last minute.
According to TMZ, Crystal Bowersox stormed out of the studio last month, sick of all the attention from the competition and asked Ryan Seacrest in the parking lot: “What’s the point?”

Crystal, who said prior to this season that she had never watched American Idol, wanted to return to her family in Ohio. How did Seacrest convince Bowersox to stay? By stating that a victory would make her a millionaire and:
“The greatest thing I ever did was make enough money so I could buy my mom a house. You can buy your mom a house.”
At this, Bowersox reportedly changed her mind, a decision Fox executives must be thankful for. Can you imagine this season without Crystal, the clear favorite and most unique singer remaining?
Perish the thought.

And then there were 7: The remaining American Idol finalists posed for a promotional photo this week and als visited Dodgers Stadium. Which of these is your favorite?

We’re one week away from American Idol taking its show to Hollywood.
Next Tuesday, Ellen DeGeneres debuts as a permanent judge and we already know of at least one singer she’ll be critiquing: Lee DeWyze.
This soulful singer auditioned in Chicago and hauls from Mount Prospect, Illinois. DeWyze has enjoyed a moderately successful career so far, fronting The Lee DeWyze Band and specializing in acousting guitar.
He released a rock album titled “Slumberland” last year.

The smooth crooner once said his goal is to relate to fans:
“I want a connection with my audience in the sense that any song I do reminds them of a specific moment in their lives – not mine.”
How selfless! So far, DeWyze and Andrew Garcia represent our favorite male semifinlists on the show. Below, you can listen to a single by the former and judge his chances on American Idol.
