That name alone evoked anger and misery from Elizabeth Edwards until she passed away last week. Surprising? No. But the extent of the toll John Edwards’ affair and love child took on his ailing wife is being revealed for the first time.
Interviewer Daphne Barak has kept this information quiet until now, as Elizabeth requested. But now, in the wake of Eiizabeth’s tragic death last week, she tells us just what happened when the scorned wife learned of John’s indiscretions.
In March, Rielle Hunter posed half-dressed, with her baby daughter, in GQ, attacking Elizabeth and sending messages that she and John were still an item.
After years of being lied to, Elizabeth couldn’t take it anymore.
“Elizabeth collapsed and had to be hospitalized immediately after that article was published,” Daphne says, adding that she was asked to keep quiet about it.
Elizabeth’s reasons for keeping her collapse from the public were both obvious and more subtle. She wanted to remain a bastion of strength for her children.
Also, there was pride and not wanting to show weakness.
“This isn’t the only time Rielle Hunter’s presence silently hung in the air,” Barak said. “On March 8 when I picked up the telephone to Elizabeth, I told her that I was at the Regency hotel in New York for dinner. But suddenly the line went off.”
“I called again, apologizing for us getting cut off, and repeated that I was at the Regency hotel in New York. Bubbly Elizabeth went all of sudden silent.”
“Only minutes later, it hit me – the Regency hotel! For Elizabeth, the Regency Hotel was ‘the crime scene.’ This is where her husband had drinks at the Library (the name of the bar in the Regency) and locked eyes with Rielle Hunter.”
John Edwards’ affair had begun.
“Then she waited for him outside the hotel at the next light,” she explains of the night Rielle told John he was so hot. “Where everybody’s life changed.”

She developed terminal cancer. Her husband used that to garner sympathy while running for U.S. president, all while cheating on her with Rielle Hunter.
He then knocked Rielle up, lied about it many times, and may have even used political campaign funds to perpetuate a cover-up. Yet she stood by him.
His former aide came across a John Edwards sex tape. Rielle posed like a total hoe in GQ magazine and basically said that the affair was all his wife’s fault.
How long until Elizabeth Edwards takes this b!tch out?!
The Rielle Hunter GQ pictures had to be the last straw. She ripped Elizabeth and says she and John Edwards were in love. Will this private hell even end?
People magazine asks how much more Elizabeth can take, but read between the lines. What they’re really asking is: What’s she going to do about it?
We think that the best defense is a good offense.
We’re not suggesting Elizabeth actually kill Rielle Hunter, or insinuating it’s even crossed her mind, but come on. She’s got to get revenge somehow, some way.
What better way to finish this soap opera, right? She can divorce John and take all his money, but that skank Rielle? She deserves something far, far worse.
Okay, maybe not actual, physical violence. But at least having the fancy house she lives in (and John Edwards paid for) toilet papered to high heaven.

Two-time presidential candidate John Edwards has confirmed that he and wife Elizabeth Edwards are separated, but that he still cares deeply about her.
“It is an extraordinarily sad moment, but I love my children more than anything and still care deeply about Elizabeth,” Edwards said in a statement.
A friend of Elizabeth Edwards also confirmed Wednesday that the couple is separated. Elizabeth’s sister, Nancy Anania, said that she remains strong.
“She said, ‘I’ve had it. I can’t do this. I want my life back,’” Anania said. “I’m really proud of her. Somehow, she’s doing as well as you could expect.”
The statements from John and Elizabeth Edwards come …
- A former aide to Edwards, Andrew Young, is preparing to release a tell-all book, The Politician, that gives an unflattering portrait of Edwards.
- One week after John Edwards finally made a public declaration that he fathered a child, now almost two, with his mistress Rielle Hunter.
- As Elizabeth continues her battle with incurable cancer, which she has had since early 2007, about when John was knocking up Rielle.
- As a federal investigation into his campaign finances, from which he is accused of funneling Hunter hush money, is ramping up.
Yup, it’s pretty hard to see how you’d come back from that.
Young initially claimed that he fathered the child with John Edwards’ mistress in the weeks leading up to the crucial presidential primaries in 2008.
John Edwards publicly declared only last week that he is the father of the child with Rielle Hunter, who worked as a videographer for his campaign.
Young’s says Edwards tried to hide the affair, begging his “crazy slut” mistress to get an abortion and then wanting to have a fake DNA test done.
